It is generally accepted that the bedroom, as a room for relaxation and peace, should be decorated in soothing pastel shades. But such an interior, in most cases, looks a little boring and insipid. Additional bright accents can refresh and diversify the design of the room, add harmony, comfort, and invigorating positive notes to it. They can be created using original furniture elements or by introducing matching color accessories that will effectively harmonize with the surrounding space.

What to look for when placing accents in the interior

An accent is the principle of interior design, the main purpose of which is to highlight certain elements of decor in order to attract the main attention to them. However, it is important not to overdo it with brightness and not turn a cozy and stylish room into a tasteless and awkward one, for which you should strictly adhere to the proven formula of designers: 60-30-10. 60% of the prevailing calm color in the interior should account for 30% of additional shades similar to the main tone and only 10% should be given to the contrasting accent color that attracts the main attention. In the case of a monochrome interior (in the absence of additional shades), it is allowed to give more than 10% to the contrast. The mix of cold and warm colors works especially well in contrast. If the main interior of the room is made in warm colors, choose one large or several smaller items of a cold palette as an accent. You can create bright and spectacular accents with the help of various accessories: paintings in original frames, various textiles, fluffy textured carpets, and even flower vases.

CREATE ACCENTS WITH WALL PICTURES

You can draw attention to a certain wall and create a spectacular accent with the help of art. One large or a couple of smaller paintings, made in the same theme and in the same color scheme, complemented by several accessories that harmonize in color, will become an excellent accent ensemble and effectively emphasize the style of the room. As a rule, paintings are recommended to be placed above the head of the bed, if it is small and concise enough. In this case, the picture will create a single compositional center of the bedroom. Sometimes the paintings can be placed on the wall opposite the sleeping bed. But then the composition should reflect the size and height of the headboard area. This will achieve symmetry and make the interior more harmonious. In a monochrome setting, a bright relief image made in acrylic technique will help to add the color accent necessary for harmony to the bedroom.

REFRESH YOUR INTERIOR WITH TEXTILES

Textiles are the easiest and most affordable accent option. By replacing a bedspread, curtains, decorative pillows, or a bedside rug with analogs that are suitable, you can quickly and without much financial investment radically update a boring interior, and bring new fresh colors and moods into it. You can carry out updates when the season changes, depending on your mood or desire. The bed is the center of the bedroom. Complementing it with a few bright pillows, you will bring the necessary color accent into the room, which the curtains will help to enhance. Curtains of the same color and with the same print as the pillows decorating the bed will create a stylish eye-catching tandem. But when choosing curtains, keep in mind that voluminous colored fabrics should be complemented by transparent weightless curtains.

USE BRIGHT ACCESSORIES TO BREAK THE MONOTONY

Smaller elements can also take on the role of an accent and stylishly complement an attention-grabbing ensemble: soft toys, bright book bindings, original vases, or flowerpots with fresh flowers of certain colors and shades. Stylish lamps will help to diversify and complement the interior. The original solution would be to install colored lighting. By fixing color-changing LED strips on the walls of the bedroom, you can create a special atmosphere in the bedroom, effectively zoning the room and periodically changing the color of the accent, picking the desired lighting color.

Designers recommend using no more than three main shades when placing accents in the interior. More dominant colors run the risk of bringing disharmony into the surrounding space and can even overexcite the nervous system – instead of a cozy and stylish bedroom, you will get an overly flashy and tasteless room in which you will feel nervous and uncomfortable. Psychological factors should also be taken into account in the process of updating the appearance of the bedroom. Trying on the role of a designer, remember that the color palette greatly affects the psycho-emotional state of a person. For example, people who are constantly tired and exhausted in a room with predominant shades of purple may feel even more overwhelmed and depressed, while bright yellow colors will help restore their strength and improve their mood.
